Within the decentralisation efforts of the country, a stronger institutional setting has been provided for cities due to new national and regional urban policies, continued capacity building and municipal reform. Through the implementation urban planning reform, the city has prepared and is implementing two Local Development Plans.
Hosanna TVET College, previously known as Hosanna Construction College, is located at the outskirts of the city on the way to Wolkite.
The Hosanna College runs courses in Building Construction, Business, Electrical Engineering Electronics, Auto Mechanics, Textiles and Metal Manufacturing and offers the new Ethiopian Occupational Standards in Building Construction.

Hossana has gained regional importance through its production of grains like wheat, teff, sorghum and corn. Furthermore, the production of highland bamboo is an interesting and emerging field for investors. Finally, the new constructed asphalt road from Hossana via Butajira to Addis Ababa allows for the fast transportation from Hossana to all Ethiopian destinations.
