In 2012, the ECA conducted a seven days study visit to Tanzania. The visit aimed at enhancing the capacity of the ECA by learning from the experiences and practices of the Tanzanian Cities Network and the city of Dar salaam, Zanzibar and Arusha. The visiting delegation comprised of eleven Mayors/ Deputy Mayors of ECA member cities and two staff members of the secretariat.
The visiting delegation held meetings with the Tanzanian Cities Network coordinators, mayors/deputy mayors, city directors and experts of the city of Dar salaam, Zanzibar and Arusha. During the meetings and site visits, the delegation was briefed about the overall institutional setup and organisation of the network, the major intervention areas and the direct services it provides to its member cities. The hosting cities also shared their experiences with the visiting delegation on urban planning, land management, waste collection and pro-poor housing development programmes. The discussion allowed the Tanzanian hosts and the Ethiopian delegation to exchange ideas and their experiences on the above and other pertinent issues.
